Masaf Spaces Launches Operations in Somalia as Part of Its Pan-African Expansion Strategy
The first regional scale-up outside Ethiopia, deepening ties with Somali communities across borders.

MASAF Development Organization (MDO) has officially launched operations in Somalia, marking the organization's first expansion beyond Ethiopia and a significant step toward its vision of building a regional network of youth empowerment and innovation hubs across the Horn of Africa.
The new operation will bring the MASAF Spaces model to Somalia, creating opportunities for young people to access skills development, entrepreneurship support, digital literacy training, career readiness programs, and community engagement initiatives.
The expansion builds on MASAF's experience in empowering youth through inclusive, community-centered programming and reflects the organization's commitment to supporting underserved communities across the region.
Speaking on the milestone, Ahmed Taman Hasen, Founder and Executive Director of MASAF Development Organization, emphasized the importance of extending opportunities to young people across borders.
"Our expansion into Somalia is a natural extension of our mission. Young people across our region share similar aspirations and challenges, and MASAF is committed to creating platforms that help them access the skills, networks, and opportunities needed to succeed."
The Somalia office will initially focus on digital skills and entrepreneurship programming while establishing partnerships with local institutions, civil society organizations, private sector actors, and government agencies to strengthen the youth empowerment ecosystem.
As MASAF continues to grow, this expansion demonstrates the adaptability of the MASAF Spaces model and reinforces the organization's commitment to creating sustainable pathways to employment, entrepreneurship, innovation, and social impact throughout the Horn of Africa.
The launch of operations in Somalia represents not only a geographic expansion but also a renewed commitment to empowering young people and building stronger, more resilient communities across the region.
